Spliting a flourish in 0.91

Postby iced_cream » Wed Jul 29, 2015 8:43 pm

I found this really nice tutorial on flourishes where he using a pattern along path to split a path. But on version 0.91 i can't figure out how to do it. Is it possible? here is the video link, the split happens at the 1:50 mark.

Ok, I see what he did. It's not made very clear, just by watching. I wasn't listening to the narration though, so maybe it was explained.

When he clicked the "Edit on canvas" button in the Path Effects dialog, it causes the actual pattern to show up. And it shows up in that area where he has a black star near the upper left corner of the page. (If he didn't have that black star up there, it might be easier to see the pattern. It's just 3 nodes.) So he dragged that pattern down bedside the path, to make it easier to see it change while working on it. It's a 3 node triangle, with the point pointing right and the straight side along the left. Along the straight left side, he added some extra nodes. And when he drags the new nodes, he's actually editing the pattern itself. (He's editing it "live". You could do the same thing with the PAP extension, except there's nothing "live" in the extension. You'd have to remove the pattern from the path, edit the pattern and reapply.)

By chance, did you use Powerstroke, instead of Pattern Along Path?

Or possibly you used PAP with another LPE, and you have the dialog for the other LPE open instead of PAP. Be sure to click on "Pattern Along Path" in the list of LPEs, to open its dialog.

The dialog really does look just like it does in the vid, and the icon is the same as the Node tool icon :tool_node: . ;)

I am having a problem with this too. When I click edit on canvas I get two nodes with a straight segment not a triangle. I found other posts saying I need to create a triangle and copy it than click the clip board on PAP menu. I have done all the steps from previous posts and this is what I get. What am I doing wrong? I would like to be able to split a flourish.

Well first you have to create the flourish. Has it been already created? (I don't see your attachment. Try GIF, or JPG, or PNG, rather than TIFF)
