Pasting text from other win program - fails

Hi.
Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939, Windows 7

I have an issue that sometimes when copyint text from another program using :tool_text: , I do expect the text from windows clipboard to appear behind text cursor.
But instead, it seems that the last object (from Inkscape) that was copied/pasted is created. As if that objec is the one that is stored on windows clipboard, but it's not.

The only workaround I know is to quit Inkscape and start it up again.

There is some bug repports that says something about a xlink:href file but since that is above my level I can't tell if those are relevant.

Should I add a bug report for this?

Hi Grobe,
We should try to do some testing in the forum, from a couple more Windows users, to confirm that it looks like a bug. And also try to gather as much info as possible, if we conclude it's a bug.

I use Windows, but forum is slammed today, so it will be a little while before I can test. Hopefully later tonight I can do that.....and actually, I think it's happened to me before. So anyway, I'll report whatever I learn as soon as I can :D

PS -- Meanwhile, maybe you could search Launchpad?

I can't reproduce this. I can successfully paste from Chrome and Photoshop CS6 so far that I've tried. What specific programs are you having trouble copying from? It could be the way those programs copy as opposed to the way Inkscape pastes.

HI.

Sadly I haven't being able to reproduce since last time.

It might be just a coincidence, but I notide that its always when text is being copied from Windows Charmap that the problem occur. This information is of course of no real value since I seldom or never uses other programs to copy text from.

Also, the text object doesn't contain very much text. Most often it's less than 30 characters.

To make it even more difficult to find the bug - In every case that I remember it occur to me, the following statements are true:
  • The document (svg file) is old, have being saved several times, and have being changed numberous of times.
  • The Inkscape session is old, typical half an hour or more.
  • Drawing is complex, several layers, object exists outside page area.
Alltogether, it's pretty hard to actually make it to recreate the behaviour.

Might be a case of some data being pasted that Inkscape does not like.

I've already tested the windows clipboard. Pasting into other program is not an issue.

Now I ran into this again.
Tested with "Inkscape 0.48+devel r12162"


I think I know why and when this happens.

The thing is that I regularly uses WIndows internal charmap to copy'n paste arrow symbols into text. The font does of course support the arrow characters.

However, with some font and char combinations, the text just won't paste into text when :tool_text: is active. I've not found a common factor that makes the pasting of characters failing.

In this spesicic case, the font Cambria is selected in both Inkscape and Charmap.
