scenic panorama
Hey everyone!
I had an Idea that I thought I would throw at you guys to get your opinion.
I was thinking about getting about 10 or so Inkscape artists and collaborate on a panoramic collage of sorts.
Lets say, for the sake of discussion, that I'd create the first image. Then I'd post it in said message thread, then the second artist would take my image and use it to expand the panorama. When they finished their image, they'd post it and allow the third artist to use. The process would continue until every artist finished their panel and we'd compile all the images into one panoramic image and post online somewhere.
If I see enough people willing to participate in the collage, I'll throw up some basic rules/guidelines to follow with a list of participants who want to partake.

Re: scenic panorama
Sounds fun! Not sure how much time I'd have free but I think it's a brilliant idea! Count me in.
Re: scenic panorama
Id also love to participate, though im not sure about the free time I have, I plan to work on Inkscape website contest too.

Awesome!
I'll try to keep this thread going for a couple more days to see if we can't get any more people to join in. In the meantime, I'll work on a list of rules/guide lines to post up as well as a list of people participating.

And it sounds like you are talking about an image worm... is that so? Also.. where/who would host it?

Re: scenic panorama
I would like to participate in this. It will be good trying to match styles and techniques.

Quite possible. I saw/got this idea from an online community a few months ago. Not sure where I saw it though. As far as hosting, I could put the finished product on my website which is currently empty.

You don't necessarily have to match styles and techniques but you could. The only thing you really have to worry about is making your image blend with the previous one without any noticeable seams.
*EDIT* Quick google search and found that this is an image worm.
*EDIT NUMBER 2* To those participating, and those just curious to see what the finished product is, do we want to have an overall theme to the worm, or do we want to just have each person do what they want regardless of theme based continuity?

He is referring to this contest
You see this is what happens when you copy and paste from the wrong tab.
Re: scenic panorama
Okay, so far I'm counting a total of four people interested in participating; DannyKing, prkos, llogg and myself.
I also have two possible ways of running this, the first of which being my initial idea and the second being open to more participants.
Initially I was planning on having a list of people who were going to participate and have one person start the worm, then the second person take that image and work off of it and so on until the worm was complete. Each person would be given a time period to finish their work and post on the forum.
My second idea for this would be to start a thread in the "work in progress" forum on the last day of the month with "rules" to follow and people could just post their work throughout the month. A monthly theme could be presented based on the month.
Lets say I started with an image that someone wanted to work off of, they could post a reply to that, essentially holding their place in line (so two people don't end up working off an already finished panel), and when they finished their piece could edit their post with the finished work.
The second approach to the image worm, I think, would open this up to more people and give them an idea of whats going on if it isn't clear to them.
Any thoughts?

Re: scenic panorama
I like having it open to more people as in the second option, but I think it would be important to make a rule that whoever is going to work on it next needs to post a "I've got it" message to avoid two people working at the same time, creating a branch point in our worm.
Re: scenic panorama
You might like to take a look at how these guys do it - http://tiles.ice.org/
Basically, you would create a blank canvas, 20 or so tiles long. Number them and each person picks a number to draw on. The catch is that you can't choose a number if one of the neighbouring tiles is in progress. You can only pick a tile where the neighbouring tile hasn't been started or has already finished.

Re: scenic panorama
I'm interested, and I have done some image worm stuff in the past. I would think something more freestyle would get more interest as a first worm and more people might join in as it goes.
As far as choosing a number, do they wait for their neighbor to post so they know what their one edge is to match to?

yeah
Re: scenic panorama
I think this is a fantastic idea, and I can't wait to see some results. Personally I'm nowhere near good enough to make a seamless image. Heck, I'm doing good to complete ANY image, lol (and they aint that good )
But as I was reading this thread, this caught my attention:
And I'm thinking, but what if there WERE branches? I realize this is your idea, and branching isn't part of it. But just for the sake of "what if?" I'm thinking, what about a very long term project with branches? Say someone were in charge and sort of "awarded" participants with the occasional triangle-shaped canvas, which of course would create a single branch?
Yeah, I have an overactive imagination
