black box on image

Postby ellenfinkl » Fri Sep 28, 2007 6:33 am

I have an SVG file that someone created for me using Inkscape on the Mac. I've installed Inkscape on my PC. The file includes an imported PNG which is fine when I open it on its own, but in Inkscape on my PC (but not on the other person's Mac), it includes a black rectangle covering 1/3 of the image. This obviously ruins the image. The image is at the upper-right hand corner of the file, which also includes text, several layers, etc. (It's the back cover for a book.)

Any idea why this could happen? I've uninstalled, re-downloaded, and reinstalled, but the ugly black box is still there.

What do I do?

Thanks,
Ellen

Are the versions of inkscape being used to view it the same on all the machines? if the file uses filters or something that we only started supporting in a later version then older inkscapes may have issues with it. Only thing I can think of thats a obvious possibility

If that doesn't help, post the file so we can take a look.

I don't think it's a version thing, because I just downloaded the latest version. But the creator gave me the PSD of the image (that he converted to PNG and inserted into the Inkscape file). I opened that in Photoshop, created another PNG, and the problem went away. The PSD did have layers, and perhaps the Mac and PC versions treat them differently?

Thanks,
Ellen
