I am new to sign writing, I am sent cut files that are originally in PDF format, I have been able to change it to PNG in Inkscape, I need to seperate the text in the file so I can import to Artcut and cut on the vinyl cutter? Surly there is a REALLY simple way to do this I just can't find it!! Arhhh

PDF files can contain vector and bitmap objects, so it might not be that easy if the text and background are combined in a bitmap. Conversion to png probably won't be much help.

I'd try opening the pdf and un-grouping evertyhing until there are no more groups indicated in the status bar, then try to select the text.

^ The above instruction (File -> Scripts -> Export Layers To Files) is not for Inkscape. I think it's probably well-disguised spam, with the link and all.
