Hey guys, not a total noob to Inkscape, but I definetly hit something that is causing me tons of problems.

I am making a basic water drop

1) Make perfect square with Square Object Tool

2) Rotate so it looks like a diamond

3) Change Square from object to path

4) Select Side and Bottom Nodes to Auto Smooth

I want to select the side nodes to squeeze together to make skinnier water drop. But the wholeshape gets messed up. I realized that the four nodes have a node under each (where did they come from?) So I delete the bottom nodes, but that messes thing up a little more.

Anyone know my problem?

Side Problem. For the text tool, only once did I select it to type vertically. It is staying defaulted on vertical all the time now.

Your system/version?

You can also:

- squeeze the whole shape, using the selection tool
- select the nodes with the lasso/box/rectangle selection (dragging a box around them with the mouse, with the node tool), then: use Alt + . to pull them closer together, or switch on the scaling handles in node editing, and use those.

(but the scaling really works pretty well for me - what's your Inkscape version? Your OS? Can you make a short screencast or gif that demonstrates the problem?)

As for the text tool, which option for setting the style is selected in the preferences? Double-click on text tool icon to check them.
