Inkscape 0.92 Imported from Ponyscape

Postby panix1111 » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:21 pm

I have a question for a future version Inkscape 0.92:
Wiki is say:
Objects
Hierarchy of document
  • Imported from Ponyscape

Someone can explain me in more detail what it means?
What is taken from Ponyscape?
The principle of the hierarchy? Or the code? Or ???

Not sure about that but heard there will be an object browser, as requested many times.

The objects dialog is in the development version. It looks almost like the layers dialog - also includes the layers. It has options for hiding and locking objects, blurring, opacity, renaming and blend modes per object, and shows icons for the type of object, and if it is masked or clipped, and allows you to choose a color for the path outline when it's highlighted when using the node tool.

Screenshot (don't look too closely at the desktop theme, it's in a chroot where I only installed the really necessary things to reduce bloat):

Ooooh, look at all those Blend Modes! Moini, are those column headers part of your install, or part of object manager? If part of object manager, what are T, CM, and HL?

Ponyscape is....I'm not sure if it's called a "fork" or a "port" of Inkscape (or "branch" or "twig" or "spoon"? ). (Moini can correct me ;)) But Ponyscape is a special version of Inkscape, that someone (or maybe a team? I'm not sure) is developing separately from Inkscape. And some of the features that this person or team has programmed for Ponyscape can or will be donated back to Inkscape.

And the Object Manager is one of those. It's the feature, or the code for the feature, that's being imported

It's a little bit of a hard concept for me to understand, but it's part of "open source development".

As Lazur said, this has been a much, and long time requested feature, and I'm thrilled that it's almost here!

T: Type (object, clone, layer,... - I think, didn't check today, but that's what I think I remember)
CM: clipped / masked
HL: Highlight color (of path outline when you hover with node tool)

(fork sounds right to me - unlike the other cutlery ;))

They really need to add some kind of layermask feature, to make working with masks and clips unified and easier.
