Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?????
Hi Zach,
What exactly is the issue your having? What OS are you on? which version of inkscape are you running?
Your best bet for help with this is to post a bug at the tracker, follow the instructions at http://www.inkscape.org/report_bugs.php?lang=en
Cheers

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?????
This is a problem many people have under Windows XP SP2. You can find it described better here: http://www.wacom-europe.com/forum/topic.asp?lang=uk&ARCHIVE=&TOPIC_ID=9696.
Basically GIMP and Inkscape don't work properly with Bamboo Fun. The cursor freezes as soon as I start Inkscape. In GIMP it freezes as soon as I lift the pen or spin it to use the eraser. Sometimes it also freezes randomly.
This topic on Wacom forums has four pages and is more than 3 months old. Wacom staff managed to replicate this bug, but still there's no solution...

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?????
Well, my pen tab works perfectly outside the inkscape window ....just when it's inside it tends to stop and well not really work properly ...it will lag and go really slow and make it nearly impossible to do anything. I am running windows Vista ....I checked out the things that you guys showd me. This seems to be an ongoing problem .....I thank you guys for your help ......

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
yeah
i`ve heard things like...
that the bamboo board is not that good to use.
well at least in linux there is a much better support for the older model
that`s why i`ve decided to get the older one instead
i use it on both xp and linux, and seems to work just fine when using inkscape.

Tor Lillqvist (gtk+ developer) write in GTK+ Bugzilla:

There are only a handful of people who occasionally maintain parts of the Windows-specific code in GTK+, and none of us seems at the moment to be particularly interested in the tablet-related code. Not to mention that few of us probably even have a tablet. I have an old Wacom ArtPad II, but don't really use it, and I am not
going to buy a Wacom Bamboo (as suggested in the initial comment) just to fix this bug. Sorry.

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
It would be very helpful to get this sorted as Inkscape is otherwise great.
Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
I had the same problem with Wacom Graphire 4 over Win XP using the on-line and updated drivers. So I recomend to use the original package drivers.
I solved it that way.

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
I also happen to have a Bamboo and Inkscape. The problem is that Inkscape only recognizes one type of input device at a time. You're either using a mouse or a stylus. Not both. To make it work, open up Input Devices. You'll be greeted with two dropdown menus, one of which will have "Wacom Tablet Puck" at the top, the other will have "Window". First, select everything in that list, one at a time, with whichever pointing device you can get to work, and change them all to "Screen". If you leave them at "Window", your cursor won't line up properly and it'll make the pencil tool impossible to use. Hit "Save". Then, select the first "Wacom Tablet Pressure Stylus" you see on the list and leave Input Devices open. Click the Inkscape window with the pen and don't touch any other mouse. It should work, then. Oh, and it will lag and stutter, but once it's done fussing, it'll work just fine. Normal mice and strangely enough, my laptop's touchpad work under "Wacom Tablet Puck".

Oddly enough I tried this and all the items in the drop down menu were already set to "screen" and it still didn't work for me. Assuming that all the items in the drop down menu were input devices and it(as you mentioned) can only handle one at a time. I set all but the first option to disabled and that fixed the problem immediately.

Hello, I just signed up to the community and I was wondering what you mean by using the original package drivers. I have this exact situation and I thought I fixed my alignment issue but my pen tablet still freezes. I'm just not sure what the original package drivers are.
Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
"Original package drivers" would be the ones that came on the CD with your tablet.
You didn't say, but if you have a Bamboo refer to this thread - New GTK version fixes support for Wacom Bamboo

Actually, I have the Graphire4. I'm going to give what you said a shot. I had updated the original files thinking that would fix the alignment problem but since I have fixed that maybe going back to the original would fix the freezing problem the tablet seems to be doing.
Thank you!

Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
Hello,
I'm about to buy such a tablet and search the web for known issues.
As far as I can see, bug reports always concern gtk on windows. Is this a linux issue as well? I'm using gentoo linux and want a tablet for inkscape and gimp only.

Thank you sir, that worked a treat for me Stutters a little at first then works great (so take pen well away from pad while stuttering!).
Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
I see that this must be a rather large problem. I don't have any computer experience and I only recently got this Bamboo tablet. However I had XP until my computer crashed and the company made me use Vista, and I never had lagging problems on the XP. However this Vista is seriously irking me, I'll go to draw something on Gimp and all of a sudden the mouse will stutter and my line will go off the page! I honestly can't stand that and I would most certainly appreciate a way to fix this or just get rid of it. I've tried going through the pen preferences and I can't seem to find one that will just rid me of this terrible lagging. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I have important cards I must be drawing and things I wish to animate eventually and if this keeps up I fear I will be more frustrated than I would ever be with Windows Movie Maker (don't get me started on that program).
Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Support?
Hello I just wanted to say this worked for me. What a lifesaver! Thank you so much!
My problem was, Inkscape was not "sensing" my Wacom pen tablet within the canvas area. And you're right about leaving stuff set to "Window", I was wondering why it had that weird offset.
Much gratitude,
Feanne
