copy and paste path segment
copy and paste path segment
Hi, there is a way to copy and paste only a segment from a path?
Re: copy and paste path segment
Hi boti,
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, but not without having to break the path and put it back together afterwards. Here are the steps below. And please make use of the Help menu too. The tutorials are excellent for beginners, and as well, the manual covers just about everything (certainly everything needed by a novice
).
1 - Using the Node tool (
) select the nodes at each end of the segment you want to copy.
2 - On the node tool control bar, click "Break path at selected nodes". (I think it's the 4th button from the left, but be sure to read the tool tip, because I don't have Inkscape at the moment.
3 - Now select the new segment and either Duplicate or Copy, and Move or Paste wherever you want it.
4 - Return to the broken path and select the 2 end nodes that were created when you broke the path, and click "Join selected nodes" on the node tool control bar (I think 3rd from the left). There will be 2 end nodes at each end of the segment, therefore, you'll perform the join twice.
5 - Done!
Let us know how it goes.
All best

Re: copy and paste path segment
I just have one suggestion to Brynn's idea, and that is to duplicate the entire object first (Step 1), that way you don't have to deal with re-attaching the paths, you can delete that object once you are done with it.

Not directly, as everyone has already told you. But perhaps I can save you a step or two.
1.Using the

2.In the edit menu, invert selection (keystroke '!' in my Inkscape).
3.Delete.
4.Using

5.Copy.
6.Undo.
7.Paste.
Did it work? was it almost as quick as having the copy/paste nodes feature?
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: copy and paste path segment
Thanks for the qick answers,
I had to do this bechose I need to have 2 closed objects where the two objecs have some common borders, so there are segments of the two objects witch has to be in the exactly same position.
my solution was to copy and paste the whole path to a new layer, than delete the unnecesary parts, but I was asking if there a quickest method fot this. durban`s solution seems to be the qickest way.
