Hi Friends,
SO many times I've wished to be able to blur a stroke without blurring the fill. Or vice versa. Just like one can appy an alpha value to fill or stroke separately.
I'm wondering if this would even be possible, before I put it on the Launchpad Wishlist. I have come up with ideas in the past, which really can't be implemented, even though it might seem like a good idea to me So I just like to check before following through
blur stroke, fill individually, like alphas
blur stroke, fill individually, like alphas

Re: blur stroke, fill individually, like alphas
I'm pretty sure, (but not positive) that the SVG standard doesn't allow the blur filter to be applied to the stroke. It can only be applied to an entire object. I would duplicate or clone the object to treat blur on just the stroke.

Ok, thanks micro

Even so, it wouldn't be too much of an ask to work around this would it ..?
IE you could support in inkscape by way of a "technical workaround" IE it could cause the object to be doubled up when this was effected....
And they could stay grouped together...ETC....
I bet it could be done in such a way that most people wouldn't even notice the difference....
Then you could un-group them if you wished or if you did not ungroup them removing the differential in the blurring could cause the objects to be merged again....
IE i think that this is not supported does not mean it can not be worked around in this way....
Does it?

It's not supported directly and microugly just gave the work around. What's your question?

Not so much a question...
I was just commenting that this workaround could be implemented automatically into inkscape....
So that this "work around" which must be done manually currently...
Would be done automatically by inkscape...
I.E.
Most users don't care if the file spec does not support it (in fact allot of users probably don't know what a file spec is)...
they just want something to work ...
And if there is a work around way to do this....
Then it is possible!
Regardless of the file spec it can be done....
And anything that can be done manually can also be automated...
Thus this "work around" as it is currently could be automated into inkscape in such a way that the user would not even know the file spec did not actually support it....it would just happen this way...
Ie applying the blur independently would automatically divide the object into 2 separate paths that would behave as if they were the same object on a display level...unless they were un-grouped.....

It's all about priorities, we could spend time automating work arounds to fairly obscure issues that aren't too hard to do manually, or we can code new stuff or fix existing bugs...
You'd need to find a deb who thought this was the best use of their time.

I have to agree with you there...
it probably wouldn't make my own personal top 50 wish list...
but i do think its a worth while idea anyway....
