Text in layers + transparency

Postby echdareez » Tue Sep 27, 2016 6:58 pm

hi there,

This might be a basic question but as I've just started out with Inkscape...
When I place a text object on a layer (the "T" is on layer2 eg) and give it a transparency of about 50% (the RGBA is c300006f), there's an area that seems to 'overlap'. Like the area that "contains" the T?

Any suggestions?

Hi Dimi,

if you do not want the color of the objects below to shine through, you will need to remove the transparency. (I'm only guessing that this is what you mean - if not, please describe in more words what the problem is in your drawing).

hi Moini,

Thanks a lot for the reply - well, more information :
Image

I've marked the 'odd' behaviour with those black lines : initially, there were 3 items on those 2 layers : 2 circles and 1 textobject. All of them with 50% alpha... So along those lines, there's that 'rectangle' (coming from the "T" ? ) that can't be explained. Furthermore, I've created that vertical rectangle on layer 2 : no problem... Copied it + rotated it and you have that 'ghost' transparency appearing...

Not sure if that explain my problem?
thanks!

Have you perhaps got any filters applied to the objects?

Attaching the SVG file will be the quickest way to get a definitive answer.

I was able to reproduce the problem by changing the layer's blend mode to 'Multiply' (set back to normal to make it behave normally again, in the layers dialog). Looks like a bug, though....

@Xav : no filters whatsoever... I'll try to attach the SVG... Hope this works :

@Moini : thanks a lot for your time - yes, forgot to mention that :-( Both Multiply as Screen have this as a result. A bug? Or a feature? Am I misunderstanding the Blend Modes?

Well, you do have a filter - in that layer modes are implemented as filters in Inkscape. Select your "T" and look at the status bar, where it will tell you that you've selected "Group of 1 object; filtered".

Using the Filters > Remove Filters menu option will get rid of the problem, but will also get rid of the blend mode. Whether that causes you a problem will depend on exactly why you applied the blend mode in the first place. I would tend to concur with Moini that this is a rendering bug.

@Xav : oh waw... Indeed! Again my apologies - when you mentioned the filters, I thought you were referring to the Filters option in the menu bar and if I used them on these objects. But yeah, done that and removed the filter(s) and it was resolved (it didn't delete the blend mode though). Will test it some more and if needed, will report it as a bug if I can reproduce it...

*edit* Where were my manners? :D Thanks for the help!!!

See “Double counting background” in the manual for an explanation - this is sort of a limitation of SVG filter effects in the current SVG specification.
