[solved] Editing PDF
Hello all. Im new to inkscape and i have a question that might be easily fixed. I run a online forum based game. The map we are using is a PDF based map. Is there any way you can edit this via inkscape? I tried to open it but i got a error that Inkscape couldnt open file type.

Hi GhostViper!
I was just chatting to ScislaC and prokoudine on the #inkscape IRC channel and they informed me that;
At the present time PDF import into Inkscape is not supported, however it is in the pipeline as a google summer of code projectfor inkscape:
But the PDF export from Inkscape can also be a bit flaky, so it may be a while before you can acutally "Edit" a pdf in inkscape...
Nicu (http://nicubunu.ro/) has done some work previously on creating RPG maps in SVG format using inkscape...

Re: Editing PDF
If you like, I might be able to convert the PDF to SVG using Illustrator so you could edit it yourself. Post a link to file if you would like me to try.
Re: Editing PDF
You can try to convert PDF to a SVG using Ghostscript or with pstoedit applications. I usually use the pstoedit tool, the result is not 100% but it is a good start. Some things like embedded images in PDF are not supported by this conversion.

The map is quite large so you will have to email it back to me. My email is mailto:[email protected]. Thank you all for the quick replies and all the help.

First off, I provide this under the assumption you have the necessary copyright permission to modify it - http://www.microugly.com/temp/3067ccs.svg
Secondly, I would attempt to contact the creator of the map and ask for a copy of the original file. It's always easier to work with the original rather than a coverted copy.
