Hi Friends (mostly dvlierop )
I've already installed the new stable release of 0.48. But unfortunately, it seems I can no longer temporarily disable snapping using the Shift key.
I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit.
I was trying to find a 'what's new with 0.48' somewhere, but can't locate it. Is there something new with snapping?

Re: Shift doesn't disable snapping in 0.48
The modifier no longer works in the node tool context: see bug #588628 “Shift doesn't disable node snapping” (it still works like in 0.47 when moving an object with the select tool).brynn wrote:But unfortunately, it seems I can no longer temporarily disable snapping using the Shift key.
As in earlier versions, you can open the release notes from within Inkscape: menu 'Help > New in This Version'.brynn wrote:I was trying to find a 'what's new with 0.48' somewhere, but can't locate it.
Some changes are listed under Other features.brynn wrote:Is there something new with snapping?

Hi,
Uhm, Disable Snapping (Shift) isn't working for me anymore either, Vista 32-bit, still works for me in 0.48 pre01 r9509 though.
According to this table of "Node Tool Improvements", this "node" feature checklist for 0.48, makes no reference to "disable snapping" shortcut key at all, yet other node shortcut keys are listed here..

Aww
I'm disappointed, but glad there's already a bug report. At least I know it will be fixed sooner or later
Thanks ~suv

Console yourself with this featurette that I did not see in the checklist but might just have missed: select several nodes with the node tool either by dragging or rubberbanding. They don't have to be adjacent or even on the same path. Tab and shift tab will now move your whole selection in the exact pattern that you included and excluded nodes, one node at a time back and forth.
Go ahead, someone tell me THIS behaviour has been in Inkscape for several versions and I am bringing up the rear once again

Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Shift doesn't disable snapping in 0.48
About the snapping: the workaround is to use the % key to globally disable all snapping. You will have to re-enable snapping afterwards unfortunately, which makes this a bit awkward.
No easy solution for this problem is at hand though, because there are simply too little key modifiers available. The shift key has already been taken, so if I fix this for you then someone else will get upset. Many tools defined their own modifiers for various reasons. The only way to try to resolve this situation is that someone should make an overview of all tools and all modifiers, propose new priorities, and discuss this on the mailing list. And then pray for consensus...
