trouble in installing inkscape 0.48.2

Postby sparkjohn » Wed May 02, 2012 9:15 pm

Hello,

I am trying to install inkscape 0.48.2 from source in a 64-bit centos server (CentOS release 5.5 (Final)). But I am getting the following error while doing the configure.
=======
No package 'giomm-2.4' found
=======
I could not find the package in repositories. Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks
John

Welcome John :D

I didn't answer this when you posted the other day, because I don't know the answer. But since no one else has replied, I thought I'd try and get the ball rolling. And since I'm replying anyway, I have to say I'm curious about installing Inkscape on a server. Why would you install on a server? Is it perhaps a way for everyone who uses the server to access Inkscape?

Ah yes... CentOS... well, honestly I tried this too with no success and ended up installing it in the WinXP virtual machine that I use. You have plenty of dependencies problems to solve...

Actually I feel like I want to try this again, I'll try to do this again today if I have the time.

CentOS, btw, is not necessarily a server OS. It's a "corporate OS" so to speak, so many times companies use it because of this, and you end up going to work everyday with this thing as your "workstation", but it's a pain to do something with it due to dependencies (outdated stuff in it).
