Letter disappears when arching text.
Letter disappears when arching text.
I have research & read quite a few threads on the editing of text in Inkscape. My focus presently is the following:Arched Text: An Inkscape Tutorial « SixThings . However despite reading over quite a few times and adopting the advise & word of the wise contained in the following contributions e.g. "is it possible to do this tutorial in Inkscape,Text & Perspective & Incongruent skewing/foreshortening of an exixting object; I simply cannot get past getting the envelope effect to work as the first letter in that tutorial simply disappears when the envelope tool is applied. I have tried the "Path Effect Editor for perspective in other scenarios & have also tried a suggestion by "Kelan" in one of the above mentioned but I cannot seem to achieve the desired effect in the tutorial mentioned. Your advise is needed please.Have a good day.
Re: Letter disappears when arching text.
If you could give us a link to the tutorial, we'll have a better idea about what might be going wrong. It sounds like you might have intended to add some other links??
Are you using the Envelope extension or the LPE (Live Path Effect)? Does the letter disappear the moment you either apply the extension or path effect? Or if you're using the path effect, does it disappear when you drag around the green paths?

Re: Letter disappears when arching text.
Kento,
Try scrolling down below your document to see if your letter is there. I thought mine was disappearing also, but it is there. It's clear at the bottom and upside down too! If I figure out how to fix it, I'll be sure to post back.

Ok, I've got it working for me.
Instead of starting the bounding box at the top left of the letter, start it at the bottom right. Has worked perfect me for every time.
I'll post this on the tutorial page also for those having trouble over there.

Really disappears or is displaced (e.g. outside of the page area)?
If the transformed (enveloped) path is displaced, see Bug #663667 “Extension 'Modify Path->Envelope' fails inside transformed groups” and the examples from comments #3 and #4. Workarounds are either to start with a new document (and only resize the page after you are done with enveloping), or add a new layer in the current document and work on that new layer for creating the arched text.

Odd - that's not the default for the 'Envelope' extension: its quadrilateral does have to start in the upper left corner, and continue clockwise [1]: See e.g. these earlier comments ( 1, 2, 3 ) about the 'Envelope' extension, and the difference between 'Envelope' and 'Perspective' and their quadrilateral paths.
Are you possibly working with a PDF or (E)PS file opened in Inkscape? Or with objects which are inside a (vertically) flipped group? See also the discussion in reply to this posting: Re: Shaped Text.
[1] How to visualize the path direction is described here.
