How to uninstall inkscape from windows 7

Postby preblemike » Tue Oct 25, 2016 5:17 am

Title sort of says it all.

Downloaded from inkscape, installed, now trying to uninstall - gets about halfway done, then stops uninstalling and rolls it back to 'installed.'

Searching on here showed some steps to try for uninstalling it on win 8, but right away none of those steps were working on my win 7 box.

So.

How do I remove this from my computer?

I can't find a hash or checksum value on inkscape, but downloading the .msi file a second time gives the same checksum, so I assume the downloaded file is correct.

Still unable to uninstall it.

Deleting folders named inkscape, and deleting all registry entries containing the inkscape name seems to have done the trick though.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble uninstalling. I'm not on Windows so can't help with that, but I'm sure someone will come along with correct steps. Or if it's a bug we'll report it so it can be fixed.

I'm just curious: are you uninstalling because it didn't satisfy your expectations?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Just deleting folders and registry entries worked out just fine. Not sure why it wouldn't complete the uninstall on its own.

"didn't satisfy your expectations?"
Well, considering it never actually would open, I guess I don't know if it satisfies my expectations or not!

Do you happen to use Ad-Aware Pro Security?

It's extremely rare that Inkscape won't start on Windows, but it's possible that there is a solution to the problem (if you still want to try it out).

No.
Malwarebytes.

"still want to try it out..."
Thank you, but no... We just took on a new automotive company as a customer, and I was just looking for a program that would work well with tiff files (A never-ending search for people who work in automotive/defense/aerospace industries!). Ended up just using Acrobat.

Thanks though!

Yes, for tiff images, I also wouldn't recommend using Inkscape - rather Gimp, or Krita - both free and open source, Gimp as a raster graphics (photo) editor / Krita as a drawing application ;-)

If you have some time some day, for playing with a raster graphics drawing app, Krita is really fun to use, and yields good results quickly.

Sorry, neither one worked.

I'm a fan of open source, in fact I've run Linux as my only home system for about a decade.

But I am also a realist. If I need something that works, works well, and works on demand, paying for it is cheaper in the long run.

Our three largest markets all use tiff as the standard for digital storage, which means we need to be able to open, view, print, manipulate tiff files without going through a lot of troubleshooting, custom settings, special steps, and so on.

Gimp chokes when printing tiff files; a few years ago I spent a few days "trying" things to make it stop crashing - the ultimate solution from the devs was to add some error-catching in the print routine rather than letting it fatally crash gimp. Now it reports an error, but still doesn't print.

Krita is more of an artistic package, not so much for technical applications.

Acrobat is working flawlessly.
