how do i to fade only one edge of a drawing?

Postby docquaker » Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:53 am

I have some drawings that I have made in Inkscape, I would like to blur only some of the edges, e.g. the bottom edge of a torso, its an effect that you often see on classic movieposters, like the ones from Star Wars attack of the clones, where you have multiple characters and scenes within the same frame.Image
Im looking for an effect similar to that of Yoda in the bottom, where he is seperated from the background, but not just cut of.

hope you can help.

Hi Doc

You could maybe try this

Alexandre Prokoudine said on 2008-08-06:
Tamara, you need to apply a mask to an image :-)
1. Draw a rectangle above the bitmap image of same size or even larger
2. Fill it with a vertical linear gradient
3. Make one of the color stops black and the other one - white.
4. Select two objects and apply "Object - Mask - Apply"
You will see that the part of the image where black color stop was is disappearing.

or one of the other suggestions

I'm pretty sure i've tryed that already, and it left me with a sharp edge, which is not what i want, but i'll play around with it some more. But i'm near the end of this project so i'll post the result, and you can see how i did :D

thnx
