This is an attempt at a "drawing" for a personal piece. It's just a "testing my boundaries" with the application. I am well versed in Jasc/Corel Paint Shop Pro and recently acquired Photoshop. I am not, nor do I consider myself to be an artist of the drawing type. I usually employ my sister for such things. I do however enjoy working with type/text and photography. I am a photographer and have considered myself one for the last 15 years. That being said, here is my first and terribly simple non-text piece from inkscape (leaving the comfort zone).



The highlights and shading is bad and so is the physics regarding the flow of the drips. My attempt here is to relate the mouse pointer to a scalpel I'm still learning. If someone could point me to a good tutorial on shading and such that would be great. Any insight or harsh critique is welcome.

i dont think it looks bad. just clean up the vectors on the inside of the pointer alittle and i think your about there.

sorry i dont know any tuts to help improve your method but i just thought id give you some encouragement. im still new at inkscape as well but have been using graphic design software for awhile. looks good.

did you use a bevel of a sort to give the blood/paint dimension?

I didn't use a bevel. I just used the freehand line tool and then blurred it. I think i need to do some "micro" node work to straighten it out. Thanks.
