Im kinda used to other vector app...and im really fond of having the little "X" IE no fill/no stroke Icon....
on the actually colour palette..IE the first square in some other apps ETC....
I realize that ink-scape has a stroke and fill dialogue/docker that houses all this functionality...but i really miss the convenience of having this little "X" icon on the palette bar down the bottom to quickly pick no fill or no stroke.....
Is there a shortcut in ink-scape to do this without utilizing the fill and stroke dialogue?
As i don't want to have to open up a large dialogue for a mundane task such as emptying a fill or stroke setting.....
I am reading the relevant manual pages on this but can-not find reference to this that does not involve opening up this dialogue.....ETC
P.S. every app is different but the way that right clicking on a tile on the palette brings up "set fill or set stroke" ETC seems a little strange to me as left clicking already preforms the "set fill" function...so why not just use right clicking for setting the stroke" as some other apps do, instead of having a menu on the right click that mirrors what the left click action does and then only offer up one other option?....I could understand the right click menu if there was more than 2 options but when there are only 2 options and you have 2 mouse buttons this menu is just a hinderence....
Anyway this means that i am having to right click and pick from a menu every time i need to change the stroke colour ETC...
Thanks in advance.....
"no fill" / "no stroke" short-cut?
Re: "no fill" / "no stroke" short-cut?
There are Fill and Stoke boxes in the left bottom of Inkscape window. To remove Fill right-click on the Fill box and choose the option from the menu.
To set a stroke color use Shift + click on the palette, there are other options that pop up in right-click menu, it works ok maybe you just need to get used to it.
I think having the chips in the palettes for removing and unsetting a color would be useful, or maybe put them in the fill and stroke boxes. Maybe you should file a request for it

I think this is as good a dedicated UI button despite not being as obvious. I know Adobe products have a button for it, so its usefulness is debatable.

Re: "no fill" / "no stroke" short-cut?
You can do this even easier if your mouse has a middle button. Middle-clicking the fill or stroke color boxes in the lower left corner removes the color from that feature. Ta-da! One click color removal.
Re: "no fill" / "no stroke" short-cut?
in svn version, there's a remove color swatch in the palette, since the last few days

What is the "SVN" version...?
Also middle button? That sounds good too but I am i big believer in the optimum use of the right mouse in graphic applications...
Especially vector ones....IE although the right click menu is a windows standard which deserves to be upheld where ever possible there are exceptions and i would say the palette is one...and input methods for object creation is another.....
I.E where right mouse button should be better employed for core purposes rather than serving up irrelevant menus just for the sake of upholding windows traditions in ALL circumstances....
(commonsense is important to...)

It's the repository of code being worked on for the next version of Inkscape. The code in SVN is compiled every few days and linked from http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D (for Windows). You can read a little more information about it at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1289

I would argue that right clicking on the Style Indicator currently displays a very relevant list of options.

Re: "no fill" / "no stroke" short-cut?
yes im sure you are right...
Although it obviously does not sound like it from my comments in this post:
I'm actually a MASSIVE advocate of the right click menu...(You would be hard pressed to find a bigger advocate than me actually.)
But there are very rare exceptions.... Input methods IE for creating objects...is one as both right and left buttons are best employed for maximum leverage of functionality for inputting...(thats another post for some future time...)
And the other one i think is "The palette" as there are 2 aspects to any object with respect to colour...obviously.... IE stroke and fill...right and left....
Just my opinion and also the opinion of other apps as you know... but my justification for this is not so much that because others do this so, so should inkscape ETC...but rather others do this for a very good reason...
And another factor weighing in favor of making this change is that currently there is nothing in the right click menu with respect to the palette.... IE there are only 2 options to consider Stroke and Fill...
Enough said though i don't want to annoy you by laboring the same point...
But i do like to make sure that people understand the reasons why i think any given thing is a good idea...
perhaps i should mock up a graphic of how i think it should be done....
By the way i had a look at the GIMP website...
As i was thinking about my palette reduction system and i was reading some of their stuff and they seem to favour mock ups for UI suggestions....and actually i have already started something some months/years ago... and i think i will re-visit it and perhaps finish of the UI mockups that i had been working on for this particular concept....
Im not really a very good sales men im afraid the longer i talk the more confused people tend to get....

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "this is how product A does it". Following standards set by competitors is a great way to welcome your competitors customers (Opera does it all the time by adopting Firefox shortcuts, etc). Plus, some of these competitors may have paid for market research to influence their choices. I think I have used graphics software that uses each mouse button for fill/stroke. I can remember wich--Paint Shop Pro? But it wasn't intuitive for me. I remember not know how to set the stroke colour and the only reason I found it was because I was familiar with using the right mouse button to expose additional option. So my efforts to get a context menu resulted in getting the stroke colour
