Having trouble plotting Text and some Graphics to Copam cp-2

Having trouble plotting Text and some Graphics to Copam cp-2500 plotter.
Running:
Windows xp sp2
1 gig ram
Full cup of Coffee
Inkscape v 0.48
Driver for the Copam plotter from USCutters.com

Now the story:
We were using Coral 8 and Signcut 2 for cutting out text and graphics to the copam plotter. The service agreement ran out for the signcut software (which incedentally
has the drivers for the plotter built in to the software). We decided it was too much
to purchase any more software, that we would give Inkscape a try. We downloaded
the drivers for the cutter ( the site says you can plot directly from Coral to the plotter)
from uscutters.com. With everything installed we did a test plot from an SVG file we had purchased..... Worked great! Then we tried plotting some text..... Plotter
started to initialize and then Nothing! We tried some basic shapes , squares,
circles and some other graphics amd same thing..... Nothing. We tried almost every
setting in inkscape from tracing bmp to putting on the path tools and still nothing.
I know I am missing something, some step but don't know what it is.
Please Help. LD.

Maybe converting the text objects and shapes to regular paths helps:
'Path > Object to Path'
