Vector to bitmap dimensions

Postby fieldnorth » Thu Sep 25, 2008 9:04 pm

Is there a way of preserving the dimensions in pixels when exporting a bitmap when you want web graphics at 72 dpi. You can change the export dpi in preferences but not the initial 'copy to bitmap' operation which is 90 dpi.

At the moment I'm taking a screenshot and pasting it into Irfanview.

I think you're performing an unnecessary step.

You don't need to select something, convert it to a bitmap, and export that bitmap.

You can just select something, and choose "export bitmap". The selection (or page, drawing, etc, in the "export bitmap" dialogue) is saved as a png file of chosen dpi.

Ah yes I hadn't noticed that. Unfortunately it replicates both steps leading to the same result.

I am not quite sure about irFanview but in the Gimp once you export an image you take an open in Gimp and then scale the image. However the only thing that you are changing is the resolution from 90dpi to 72 dpi. The image size is not affected at all.

Ignore the resolution and export the image at the pixel size you require. Resolution is just metadata and only has an effect when using the image in print media.
