I was playing with the z-order restack extension I mentioned in this thread
I started with an image of an explosion: http://jooyeol.files.wordpress.com/2006 ... losion.jpg
then created an array of tiles clones of random star shapes over it. I randomized the overlap and rotation as well. Tile clones ends up ordering the clones in a column/row fashion, but running the restack extension (radial inward) gave me this:
which ended up looking rather nice, so I figured I share it here.
EDIT: here is the link to the image as the forum cuts it off...

Re: Abstract
Thats really nice. Interesting how the sharp points of the stars almost end up looking soft. could probably have some fun doing fur/scales with something similar...
Re: Abstract
Your restack extension where is it supposed to show up in inkscape?
Re: Abstract
If you are using a .46 devel version newer than Dec 25, just unzip the two files (restack.py and restack.inx) to your <inkscape's install>\share\extensions directory.
Restarting Inkscape, it will show up under Effects->Modify Path->Restack
Note there is a bug with the Live Preview that has been already reported... the live preview will not update when changing the option button. To see the preview, uncheck then re-check the live preview box.
