Ok, so I searched the forum, and came up with nothing, so I either am the only one with this problem, or I amd uisng the wrong search terms.

Anyway, I recently installed Inkscape on my home computer, but for some reason I cannot use the selection tool (the arrow). When I click on an object nothing happens. I have Inkscape on my computer at work and don't have this problem, so I'm not sure what could be the problem. I figured out that if I hold the alt and then click it will select the object, but It still won't let me grab one of the corner arrows and resize the object.

any ideas?

Well the Alt is used for selecting objects which are out of reach, below other objects. Even though the bottom object can be seen, because the top one is partially transparent, it can't be selected without using Alt. So if using the Alt key does select your object, is there any chance your object is below another?

But then once it's selected, you should be able to resize with the corner or other arrows.

I think this problem is beyond my ability to help. But I'll still post this reply, just to firmly eliminate the possibility your object is below another, for the next member who comes along to reply.

The item I'm currently working on is a simple text field. I type the text, but then am unable to select it or resize it.

I assume you have selected the tool and clicked outside of the text box?

Yes. I've done that. I've tried everything I can think of. I have no problem using it at work, but at home is a different story.

It would help to know if this is happening only with the image your're working on at home. Does it happen with all the images you work on at home? Can you make a brand new document at home, and try and see if the problem happens in a brand new doc?
