Layer problem - Transfer between Gimp and Inkscape

Postby nisl » Tue Dec 16, 2008 5:24 pm

Hi
Is there a file format in inkscape which can handle layer-file-formats (such as *.psd oder *.xcf)
I need a layer-file-format that can be read by gimp and inkscape.
Otherwise I have to save it as *png for the transfer between gimp and inkscape, but then I
have to save 3 file-formats because I need the layers from gimp and the svg file.
Is there an alternative?

Thanks 4 ur help

If you do a search for "gimp layers" on this forum I think you'll find another post related to your query. But I think the quick answer is that there isn't any intermediate format which can preserve layers.

The method in the thread below didn't work for me under Vista anyway. It might work in linux dunno. I got gimp to open the file and most of the paths were there. Some of the short two nodes paths were dropped. But it didn't retain the layers.
