Moving groups TO ROOT layer

Postby Orimdam » Wed Apr 06, 2016 7:03 pm

Hi there! and thanks for this great program, I really love Inkscape.

Basically I need groups to be in ROOT layer because I'm using [Inkscape + Unity3D + SVGAssets]

SVGAssets has an util that can generate a spritesheet where each sprite is in reality a Renderized version of a SVG group ("g" tag).

However the automatic script works only if groups are on root layer, by default Inkscape has "Layer 1" wich is not ROOT and so the whole layer is exported as a single object even if it is divided into more groups. I'm not able to find a way to move groups into ROOT layer,

the only thing I did was merely an Hack,

I opened "orc.svg" from the SVGassets resources, that file was problably done in illustrator, but opening it with Inkscape correctly show the assets are in "(base)" layer (or root?). Then I just copy-paste my groups into "orc.svg" and delete the orc image. After that I can save the file with another name and SVGassets correctly import al groups as different sprites.

The question is, what If I'm not lucky and I don't have a "orc.svg" file? How do I move groups to base/root layer?

Thanks

I'd make a new document with no layer(s) by clicking the minus button in the layers panel.

I'd draw in that document or paste objects/groups into it.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
