Oh my, doesn't that look spectacular!
For some reason, I'm drawn to the wooden stick, which for all the world, looks real!

I don't think I've ever seen an ice cream product that looks like that. Do they have something like that in Italy/Europe? Or did you imagine it? Just the other day I was thinking about when I was a child, and in the summer, when the ice cream truck would come by. Gosh, I think I'm going to have to buy some grape popsicles! The challenge will be drawing it before it either melts, or I eat it, lol. How did you handle that challenge, spaventapasseri?? Did you have to eat a lot of them, before you finished, lol?!!

The ice cream subject is proving to be difficult. My models never survive. I need a camera, lol! I just bought a box of popsicles, though. So I can take them out of the box and put them in a bag, and back in the freezer. Then I can use the picture on the box for a model, lol!

That looks delicious! What are the tiny red berry-like things? Are they candy or really some kind of berry?

I'm curious what kind of berries. Do you know? Yet another European item, no doubt. Are they just for decoration, or do you eat them too? Pardon my curiosity, I studied a lot of plant science in college. Plus I'm fascinated with cultural differences.

ribes, you can eat and use as decoration too if you wish.

Granita is italian name for a kind of icecream made with ice and juice

Another variety of snow cone is called shaved ice. The only difference, as I understand, is the ice is more finely crushed than in snow cones (or sometimes, technically, shaved). I think it's popular in Hawaii, and probably southern California. Neither one is really ice cream, because there's no milk or cream in it. It's only ice and sugary flavoring. But crushed ice and juice would be AWESOME! Things in Europe often seem to be classier

Then we have that classic 7-11 treat called a Slushy....or is it Slushee. (Is 7-11 international? I'm not sure....it's a mini-mart type of store) Anyway, a Slushy is really, really, really finely crushed ice with the sugary flavoring, but eaten, or technically drunk, from a cup with a straw.

7-11 is definitely international, in that I've stumbled across them in Denmark and Japan at least (as well as the US). Wikipedia puts them all around the pacific, as well as in a few scandinavian countries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-11). According to that page the 7-11 treat is actually a "Slurpee" - are you confusing real life with The Simpsons, perhaps?

Here in the UK we've escaped the influx of 7-11 so far, but we do have the "Slush Puppie" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slush_Puppie) which is a slurpee-alike that also hails from the US.

Oh well, I was close, lol! Really, it's called Slurpy?? Actually I don't think I've ever eaten/drunk one. But there was a news report on tv at the moment I was reading this topic, about the 7-11 anniversary, or Slushy/Slurpy Day, or something. Well slushy would be a better name for them -- slurpee sounds awful

I made two ice creams, one is with chocolate and hazelnuts, and another is chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut ice cream. Yummy.

Ok, I finally squeezed in some time to do this. Here's my grape popsicle -- my favorite treat from the ice cream truck on a hot summer day, when I was a child.



Hhhmmm.....I guess I need some shadow on the sticks. It may take awhile before I get to it, but I'll try to add the shadow soon

I went ahead and did the shadow now. If I had more time, I would put more thought into making it a little more realistic. Maybe some bites taken out, or melting effect or something.... But I think it gets the idea across

Oh, also, I wanted to ask Pippi -- did you use specular lighting on the one with nuts? We used to call those Nutty Buddies. I like that kind of sparkling effect. And also rosie drew made a good sparkling effect. Actually I decided to draw popsicle so I wouldn't have to worry about sparkles, lol. Of course I'll be eating popsicles way into the winter -- what better reference image than on the box of popsicles, lol. Anyway, I'm trying to squeeze in some time to really study filters in depth, because I think a sparkly filter would be nice.
