The background looks like it has a subtle pattern on it. Is that a gradient that's 'banding' or did you use several diagonal objects?

You have so little to work with that every nuance has to be just so.
So what really made it for you that Sherlock Homes really hit home?
I always loved the unusual logic, the attention to detail and mostly that he seemed to be a connoisseur of perception itself.
