Can we go back to default settings?
Can we go back to default settings?
Question: Can we go back to default settings?
In Inkscape I clicked buttons here and there but unable to find.
I wonder if in Inkscape we can go back to default settings.
Thank you

Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Some tools have a Default button on the control bar, to revert back to that tool's default settings. To reset the whole program, I think you need to delete the preferences.xml file. Then close Inkscape. When you re-open it, the pref file will be recreated with defaults. I think the pref file is in C:\username\AppData\inkscape.
But before you do that, wait for someone else to reply, and confirm that. I'm pretty sure that's correct, but not absolutely positive.
That will return everything to defaults though. If it's just a couple of settings that you can't find, and you can tell us what they are, we can tell you how to find them.

Thank you for reply. I will wait for other answer.
Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Deleting the preferences.xml file is the way to do it.

Thank you for reply.
I can not find preferences.xml file in Inkscape
Therefore can not delete.

The details of where to find the preferences.xml for your OS can be found at viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2037#goto-delpref
Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Thank you for reply. Sorry I missed that Roaming folder earlier.
Now I have deleted the preference.xml file

Re: Can we go back to default settings?
I'm sorry for not posting the path properly. I know it's different for different os, and I didn't know your os. So I made it sort of a generic path, hoping you'd be able to sort it out.
Thanks micro, I had forgotten about that FAQ item.

Re: Can we go back to default settings?
I found that the best way, for me was to uninstall Inkscape and then re-install it

Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Actually, uninstalling and re-installing Inkscape will not revert to defaults, unless you delete the preferences.xml file, before you resintall.
But, as discussed above, just deleting the prefs file will do the trick, and you don't need to uninstall.
(I'm thinking that was not a sincere reply, since they mined up a 5 year old topic. Probably a spammer looking for a way in.)

Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Not meaning to resurrect an old thread here, but I apparently found a way:
Press and hold Alt + Control + Shift (Windows) or Option + Command + Shift (Mac OS) as you start Inkscape.
Works just like it does in Photoshop.

it is new information for me, thank you
Re: Can we go back to default settings?
Soon, it's going to be easier to find the preferences file. The 'System' Preferences panel in Inkscape has just been changed to include buttons that will open the folders directly.
