Jpg import in Inkscape

Postby astutobob80 » Wed Oct 15, 2014 1:56 am

HI,
I want to import a jpg on inkscape and then write something on it.
Once I load it (embed img with the document) the img has different color respect to the original.
I cannot figure out how to set a correct color space (if this is the problem)...
The img has been exported from photoshop and I'm using inkscape Inkscape 0.48.5 r10040
Thanks to everyone who will help me on this issue.
Thanks,
Roberto

Hello:

I have see here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... mport.html
and it doesn't say anything about color space for jpg file. Try to export in another format (PNG is recomended)

- Here is something about flat colours profiles:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... utes-Color

- Maybe in the preferences dialog you may find something:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ences.html

Some time ago I read that SVG format supports only an specific RGB color profile but I can't remember where. Plese google it for me ;)

Are you using Inkscape on Windows, Linux or MAC OS?
Are you using the last stable inkscape (0.48.5) or the incoming new version (0.91)?
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html
3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

I'm using inkscape on win8.1.
I solves this way. I've opened the jpg file again in photoshop. When at the beginning it asks something about the color profiles.
There are three options:
- use the built in color profile
- convert the color profile in the color working space
- don't manage colors
I usually use the first one but I've tried the others, saved them in png format and I've imported them in inkscape again.
The last one gave me the ugly results I've obtained before posting on this forum :-)
The second one produced an image with the same colors of the original.

I've solved the problem this way but I'm gonna investigate it as soon I've time ;-)
Thanks for your help ;)
