How easily fill a shape with lines?

This one I did it manually, but I would imagine there is an easier way.
Maybe in 2 main steps (?):
1. Repeating the lines with Path Effects/Interpolate Sub-paths, or just Duplicate and Distribute.
2. Making a oval Mask to cut the lines or hide the parts that don't fit in the oval shape.

The above steps and just me thinking out load.

It is the second step that I have the hardest time with. Doing a mask like that I just don't know how.

Maybe there is a whole different approach.

Thanks guys!

Use the hatch extension, if you need it for plotting/cutting:

Depends on:

You can also try google translate with this article about hatches:

Well there is the simple pattern fill in the Fill/Stroke menu also. (Those might not look great in a PDF.)

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

That's a nice extension! It automates a long manual procedure and gives you all the options in a nice dialog box. Great job, if you are the writer of the extension.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Interesting how EvilMadScientists seems to think the official manual is actually the unofficial manual.... :o

Well, it is unofficial. As there isn't an official one.

It's a copyrighted book that happens to be linked from inside Inkscape, because it is a good resource. It does not belong to the project.

I finally had the time to try this. Unfortunately the shape gets all filled up with black.
I tried the same settings you showed, and no matter what size the shape is, or if it is a shape or a path, it does the same :(

What could be the reason?

Thanks

I guess it depends on the size of your object and the line thickness: try to get access of the contour and adjust it accordingly:
