Hi Friends,
We've just had SO many messages about transparent backgrounds in PNG format lately. And there are a few others that I've either answered myself, or just seen other members answering and discussing time after time. EG - Save as or open AI, SVG to PDF, printing issues, all the Mac issues...
So I'm wondering if it might be time to set up an FAQ forum, where we can.....I don't know exactly -- somehow combine all the repetitive questions, or maybe merge them, or lock them....I'm not sure. I've seen some forums with a half page of pinned and/or locked topics -- not sure if I like that approach. It's just shocking how many people won't even scan the topics for their problem, much less search!
Anyway, just a thought. If not now, I can see the need for some kind of change re repetitive questions, before too long

Re: FAQ or forum for repetitive questions?
I have this sticky topic already - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2037 - which is posted in the announcement section across most of the forums. This topic also provides a link to the Wiki FAQs - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ
I have probably overlooked these. Can you post a link to the topic that best discusses the issue and I'll add it to the FAQ.
If you feel you can answer these questions with a short amount of wording and possibly a link to a resouce, feel free to provide that content to me.
I already have an item for opening various filetypes with a link to the topic. But people don't read the topic properly which makes me think I need to write a specific item that recommends not relying on Inkscape for editing AI files... or providing a lengthy article on the subject.

Re: FAQ or forum for repetitive questions?
Note that if you want to write a lengthy answer to a FAQ, add it to an appropriate topic, or create a new topic in the "Inkscape Resources" forum and I'll link to it from the FAQ sticky topic.
Re: FAQ or forum for repetitive questions?
Thanks micro. I will work on these issues, and let you know when I have suitable examples ready to use.
[edit] Another issue that's come up a lot recently open vs import or import doesn't work or the like. I'll just add it to the list, and work on it as well.

Re: FAQ or forum for repetitive questions?
Hey micro,
Here's a great topic for the transparent background issue.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5085&start=0
There's another one which is more comprehensive, but I haven't found it yet. Meanwhile here's this one....short and sweet
Also, I was thinking that maybe the FAQ topic doean't get read as much, because most people (including me) expect it to be about forum issues rather than inkscape issues. I'm wondering if the topic were titled something like 'Repeatedly Asked Questions', it would draw more new users to read it?
I'm working on these little by little. Haven't found time to do all at once. Thanks again
PS
I think your message, along with the ensuing replies, cover this topic very well. I'm baffled as to why it doesn't seem to get read, and not sure what could be done to improve readership....maybe put some of the more common filetypes in parenthesis in the topic title (leaving current title in place and adding format extensions)? IE - (AI, EPS, WMF, PDF, etc.)
On the other hand, we don't know how many people read it, find the solution to their problem, and never need to post a new topic. Maybe it's a more common problem than we realize??

I've renamed it to "Inkscape Frequently Asked Questions" to put it into context.
I'm not too bothered if people don't read it, so long as it's easy to link to it when the same question is asked over and over.

Good idea. I've included some examples in the question.
