Runtime error

Postby lpvmc » Thu May 14, 2009 1:01 am

Hi,

First time I'm working with Inkscape, working my way through the Basic Tutorial. While using the Shape Tools I got a Runtime Error:
This application requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for further information.

So here I am asking for someone to help out. This is an XP SP3 computer.

During installation I got the same error twice saying it couldn't install the uninstall log or something like that but after clicking the error to go, installation continued and reported a succesfull installation at the end.

Thanks in advance.

Hi lpvmc,
I probably can't solve your problem, but wanted to post a reply for you, with my best shot at it. Can you reproduce this problem? Was it a one-time event, or does it happen every time you do whatever it is that caused the error?

For me, it's not at all uncommon to get various kind of errors, and sometimes even crashes. And I have had runtime errors. Developers and more experienced users say Inkscape is stable, so I think I have so much trouble, maybe because I don't do things in the usual way, as I'm learning the program.

If it was a one time thing, don't worry about it. If you can reproduce it, then try searching Launchpad to see if the problem has been reported already. (Launchpad is the place to "contact the application's support team for further information.")

By the way, what version of Inkscape are you using? If you're using the development version (0.47), and you can reproduce the problem every time, and you can't find evidence that it's been reported at Launchpad, then you could go ahead and make a new bug report. Be sure and include your OS, Inkscape version, the exact steps that produce the error, and sample .svg file illustrating the problem.

Also, if you can reproduce the problem, you might post here exactly the steps you are taking that cause the error. Maybe there is another way to do what you want.

I know this isn't much help, and maybe a more experienced member will come along with a mroe definitive answer. But please let me know what you find out, in any case.

All best :D

Hi brynn,

To begin with, sorry I didn't reply earlier but I had problems with my security; frustrating as always.

In order to solve my problems I had to do a restore to 'last known good configuration' , which was before I installed inkscape. I tried it again tonight but no way. All kinds of errors, which I have not written down so that's not very helpful. Since it's late already I'll try again tomorrow, but I wanted to thank you for your response.

Your help is much appreciated.

Hi,

Uninstalled it all and reinstalled Inkscape. Tired to use the tools and until now all works fine; keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks.
