I have been working on a project for which we need to emulate the pms color 172 c. According to the charts I have found you do this using cmyk with the values c 0 m 72 y 87 k 0. I created the file in inkscape as an svg example color block , but needed to save it as an ai for others sample color block. What I found in opening the file in Illustrator is that the values for my cmyk were changed . This also happens again when opening and ai in inkscape . Why do i get different color results between the two programs? Can I fix this. It seems in this case illustrator comes closer to matching the pms color. At least from a final output standpoint.
Thanks!
CMYK Translation from Inkscape to Illustrator and back
Re: CMYK Translation from Inkscape to Illustrator and back
Sorry, I dont have the images uploaded. However when I opened the color in illustrator from my inkscape file i got c 0 m 87 y 94 k 0. When I opened the illustrator file in inkscape i got c 0 m 64 y 81 k 5.
Thanks again
Thanks again

The issue may be related to the fact that whilst you are specifying the colour using CMYK, they are actually stored as RGB. If you check the RGB values and they match, then you can be confident that they are the same colour.

Is there a fix on the horizon where there will be true cmyk?
Thanks

I believe that RGB is the only color specification supported by SVG currently. The Inkscape developers are working on ways to better support CMYK--but I don't understand how this will work.
