Problem with connector

Postby Pinpoint » Wed Dec 24, 2008 8:28 pm

Hi,

I've got two groups, each containing some text and a rectangle, I'm trying to create a connector between the two groups, but it's not exactly going to plan. Clearly the second box should have the connector at the top, not running through it to the bottom. How can I rectify this?

Thank you.

Are you sure that that line is really connecting the two boxes? When you move the boxes, does the connector move?

Make sure that the line is a "diagram connector" (third tool from the bottom here), and make sure it "locks" on to the centres of the two boxes.

Hi barney,

Yes, it is definitely connecting the two boxes at the centre, but just to check I moved the bottom box to the left:

Just to highlight the issue a bit better. Here's an original picture showing the problem:

Now, moving the top box below the bottom box:

I tried to reproduce this, but couldn't.

- Do you have this with only these two items + connector of does it happen with other items + connector as well?

- Can you post your SVG so we can look at it?

- Which version of Inkscape are you using, on which platform?

Hi Erik, I'm not 100% sure why this has started happening - it has been working satisfactorily. It seems to happen with other items and connectors also; I've uploaded the svg file for you, and I'm using the latest Inkscape on WinXP32.

Thanks for the file.

When I load that file in Inkscape, I see the same.

And when I add two more object which I want to connect, i get the same result: the path always connects to the bottom of the object.

My knowledge on Inkscape / SVG is not enough to explain this.

I looked at the SVG file in an ascii editor and compared it to a second svg with similar content that I created myself, which behaves normal.

The only significant difference that I could find are some lines in the object definitions, concerning a transformation, a translation:

transform="translate(36.167568,-297.2686)"

Each object in your file has a transform.translate line, with different values.

Someone with more knowledge on SVG / Inkscape / XML might be able to tell if this might be causing the problem.

by the way: selecting the two items plus the connector in your drawing and copying that to a second drawing in Inkscape gives a proper working copy. It appears to be something in your drawing.
