Greetings,
I am trying to create glowing stars (i.e., with 'bloom') and I am very pleased with the look of Inkscape's Filter>Blur>Fancy Blur effect when applied to bright-color-filled circles 10-20px in diameter on a black background. Trouble is, the blur gets squared off at the objects' boundaries, which are not sufficiently extended like when using the Object>Fill and Stroke>Fill(tab)>Blur(slider). That won't do!
Could anyone here suggest:
1) A strategy for extending object boundaries so that the 'fancy blur' fills out to its full extent?
2) An alternative method to create blooming stars?
Looking forward,
- Erik

Open the Filter editor (under Filters menu), you'll see the filter there, if it's not selected deselect the circle then select it again, it will update in the editor.
Select the Filter General Settings tab and reduce the coordinates number (more negative) and increase the dimensions, this defines the area that the filter is applied to.
The problem with your object is that it's small, you wouldn't see a cut off if the object was bigger (filters are sensitive to that).

And after you have adjusted the settings you can resize your stars because filters size follows object size.
