Very new to Inkscape and I've searched the forums for this or a similar problem and can't find anything.

I am trying out Inkscape for converting .jpg to .svg images and am finding some .jpg files will not open or import; when I click on the file to open, the jpeg bitmap image import box pops up, I click on OK, and I get an error message that indicates "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now." and the program shuts down. I am running Inkscape version 92 and Windows 10. Again, I have success with some .jpg files, either photographs or drawings, but not all.

Thanks for any help or advice you may have.

Are you sure there are jpeg ?
How large are they ?
Do they open fine in other app ?

The file is a .jpg file and is 75kb in size, not large. I can open the .jpg file in Paint Shop or other applications. It is strange because other .jpg files open fine in inkscape to allow me to convert them to .svg format, but some files won't open and I get the error message causing inkscape to shut down.

You're welcome to share the JPGs, and then we could test. However, if we also get the same error message, it won't help for finding out why they are causing Inkscape to crash.

On the other hand, if a few of us all have the same experience, it would be solid ground to open a bug report and get developers involved to find out why they are causing Inkscape to crash. That's probably the best we could do, is get a bug report opened, in case there is a collection of JPGs which consistently crash Inkscape. We probably can't fix them, so that you can use them.

I don't know, maybe some members here could examine the JPGs and maybe find out if they are corrupt. I don't have that kind of knowledge, but others might.
