I posted a reply to my one-handled node topic (viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1690) either late last night or early today (in the last 5 or 6 hours). But it seems to have disappeared

I'm reasonably certain I did post it, although it's always possible I got distracted and forgot to click Submit. Any chance you could have accidentally removed it? There were a lot of spam messages posted, which I alerted you on, during the same general time.

If you accidentally removed it, can you get it back? Or will I need to compose and post again, in any case?

You'll need to post it again, sorry. There's nothing in the logs that suggest your post was deleted, but my host had some database problems yesterday that may have caused the problem.
