New tool in latest Win32 build

Postby microUgly » Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:22 am

The first build in over 10 days was released for Win32 yesterday and it now includes the new "Tweak tool". It allows you to scuplt a path regardless of what where the nodes are. It can also thicken and thin or make a path rough. I think the thinning and thickening of a path is the same function that was orginally added to the calligraphy tool. Good to see that it is now it's own tool.

Like the Calligraphy and Fill tool, this is another one of these features that will make you wonder how you lived without it. I think it's quite exciting that Inkscape is now at a point where you can create almost any drawing without having to manually place nodes. It makes Inkscape the essential vector tool for tablet users.

I tried a Linux build of this tool and it blew chunks... tried it with text that was converted to a Path... things kept disappearing and was rather frustrating. I hope this is better for the next stable release.

I had used it long ago when it was a part of the calligraphy tool and I found it to not work well. But now it works wonderfully. Using on text is a great effect.

Where is this new version? 45.1 doesn't seem to have the warp or fill tools...

It's still in development. You can download the development versions here - http://www.inkscape.org/download/?lang=en

Whoops, I'm a huge dope. Didn't realize those other files were 7-zip archives of ~working versions~ of Inkscape. Thought they were code piles or something.

MAN that fill tool is sweet.
