Dear all,
I am editing a A4 Poster with a lot of text, but then Inkscape becomes very very slow, especially when editing text, what' s wrong?
-> it can take 5 to 10 sec when I add a single character,e.g. "a".
so any fix for this problem?
I am using ACER C110 Tablet PC with 1GB RAM, is it not enough?
-> but the file size of the *.svg file is only 25kB, while the size of all the 3 photos imported are less than 250kB in total.
Thanks for any Kind of help?
Very Slow when editing A4 Poster with a lot of text...
Re: Very Slow when editing A4 Poster with a lot of text...
Hello everyone,
I'm having exactly the same problem, but only since I've migrated to Windows 7.
A fresh install of the latest version of Inkscape didn't change anything.
Simply said, if I edit a text area, however big, it goes smoothly until I have some 500-600 characters, and then the typing becomes extremely slow - at a point, it is simply impossible to work, which makes me first type in a notepad, not exactly the best way...
I assume it doesn't come from my hardware (a Quad with 4 Gigs of RAM), as it never happened under Vista or XP...
Anyone else had a similar behavior, or even found a solution ?
An example .svg can be found here :

(it's a fake newspaper I edit every week, the text areas are quite big, but nothing extraordinary, I think)

Naturally the file size balloons but there is no additional slowdown!!! This leads me to believe that inkscape converts all text to outlines internally - not a particularly desirable implementation of the text feature.
On the other hand both Scribus and Openoffice manage their text blocks very fast and offer quite a few features in terms of manipulation. Apparently Inkscape is not set up to be a text handling app at this time, so I just use it for bits of text that are going to be converted to outlines and transformed or graphically manipulated.....
I am not sure if the developers of Inkscape are looking this post...
-> I believe that Text are actually Outlines inside Inkscape, and that's why so slow when a "little bit" larger block of text exists
-> so if this is the case, appreciate if RE-DESIGN of text block! Any Schedule?
Welcome your comments, Inkscape Developers!
