It's fairly easy to create a dichotomy in Inkscape. However, things are different for a trichotomy. As the image shows:
I cannot "join" the third branch to the existing dichotomy (since there's only "join endpoints" option). Also note the "cap" style of the third branch, which is different from that of the dichotomy.
Obviously, there are tricks like grouping the three branches, but I'm seeking something neater.

The neater function should appear in Inkscape 0.48.

Oh my! It's been 3 years since 0.46, and "0.47 final" is yet to be released. Should I wait another 3 years for 0.48? Or, is there another way?

A node has 1 or 2 strokes from it; there's no way of having 3 (or more).
My suggestion would be to draw a W shape and move the two bottom nodes together, but that's just another trick.
