Hello everyone,
To make it short and simple, I am interested in contributing to the localization of the User Interface to another language other than english. How does one go about doing that with very litlle knowledge of programing? Where do I store all the necessary files (translations) in which directories, how do you incorporate/activate/use them... etc..... ?
At the moment I'm using Windows but looking forward, in the near future, to switching completely to (Puppy) Linux. I would be very greatfull to anyone who could shed some light on this matter.....
Thank you all in advance.......
Vladimir
Localization of the Inkscape interface
Re: Localization of the Inkscape interface
Usually you sign up to the translator mailing list, and there is some more info on Inkscape Wiki http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... nformation
But lately there's also been talk to do the translations through Launchpad (which is Inkscape's bugtracker of choice), I guess this might come into effect after 0.47 is out (soon).
I plan to do Croatian translation if they enable it through Launchpad

Re: Localization of the Inkscape interface
Hello Prkos,
I have visited all of the links You've posted.....
Thanks, to all of the contributors for all the help and advice. I'm much obliged....
BTW, I was wondering, is'nt there an easier way, for someone who is not that proficient with programing skills, to just concentrate on the business of quality tranlsations rather than spend, let's say a few months time, to learn the basics of programing and maybe in the process lose the will to continue with the translations which were the original goal. I know it sounds a bit confusing but I don't think that a good translator can do a good job of translating when he's doing/concentrating on 2-3 things at the same time (I don't count geniuses).
If this 'Inkscape project' was ment t be an international effort of just people who are programmers, well then that's a whole different story all together....
Personally I don't have the need to translate anything from English because it's like my second mother language, but I have a lot of requests from colligues and friends concerning open source programs that they would like to see in their mother language (Serbian to be exact).
Sincerely, Vladimir......

Re: Localization of the Inkscape interface
That's why I can't wait for the translations on Launchpad to start.
I haven't tried translating Inkscape as it is, but I didn't get a feeling it was so complicated you needed programmer skills. I agree SVN might be an obstacle, but I think there are other ways, try asking on the translators list, you'll get the correct info there. Don't let developer talk scare you away
