I had try inkscape and i found it very powerful Victor graphic design software .
And i learn too many things since i use it first time (5 moths ago)
and i illustrate some stages i never thought in my life to draw it that easy i found it in Inkscape ..
but when i work with Inkscape i have some issues and hopes with it :-
1. Inkscape not recognize Multi cores CPUs (use 1 of my CPU 3 Cores) (and i think its' to early to take about GPU acceleration).
2. being too slow when i activate any heavy filters (when i say too slow i means really really slow)
3.their is no way (at my knowledge ) to change the added filters values to make it more effective.
the fourth is something i hope to be added soon Animations .
that's all what i think to make my favorite design software best of the best .
Inkscape weakness
Re: Inkscape weakness
I think most of what you mention are known issues. I was looking for a page I saw a while back that was a pretty full discussion of future plans for Inkscape, but I can't find it. I did find this: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... scape_0.48 And you could search the wiki yourself for more detailed info.
And I also found this topic on this forum: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4332 This one is about animation! I can hardly wait, and surely wish I had the skills necessary to help in the development. Unfortunately for now, all I can do is keep alert for bugs, etc.
If I find that other page I was looking for, I'll come back and post it here.

About filters, try this :
File/Inkscape Preferences/Tools/Selector/Per-object selection cue : None

Re: Inkscape weakness
ivan, changing the Per-object selection cue to none -- that helps with the slowdown and possibly crashes when working with filters? Why? Can you explain how? .....or does this address the member's item #3?

It helps to accelerate redraw because drawing bounding boxes takes a while. I don't remember crashes because of drawing bounding boxes however.

Re: Inkscape weakness
I'm curious -- do you find it confusing not to know (or remember) what you have selected? Or does that come with experience? OH! Or can you see in the info area what has been selected, despite not having the bounding box? (The crashing kind of comes on the heels of the slowdown for me -- I think it's my own experience, that's not always shared by others.)

My choice don't remove Selecting handles which are enough for me. That's the default behaviour in Xara and also in the latest windows Inkscape build I downloaded yesterday. I find at the moment the dashed bounding boxes are way to long to redraw on screen.
Re: Inkscape weakness
Yes, I'm beginning to see what you mean. I've had WAY fewer crashes since changing Per object selection to None!
Thanks ivan!
(And Salem Alfituri, sorry for sort of hijacking your topic.)
