Planning to hire some one to draw using Inkscape

Postby chrischoi » Tue Jul 07, 2015 1:52 pm

Hello All.
I am a Physics teacher. I plan to hire someone to draw Physics diagrams for me. (1) (a) I will draw the draft diagrams by my hands first. (For example circuit diagram) or (b) I will send them some similar pictures that appear on textbooks to draw (2) I will then ask them to convert the diagrams using software like Microsoft Word.
Any suggestions? For example, (1) What shall be the hourly rate (2) What programs shall I use? (Is Microsoft Word or okay?)

Thank you very much.

Hi.

Can you:

1. Give us an example of what you are after?
2. Give us an example of the data used,
( drawing by hand might result in inaccuracies not suitable for proffesional results.
I would rather plot the data using matplotlib & python. )

An houerly rate approximating what I get in my day job would suit me fine.

But, why not learn Inkscape and produce the diagrams/drawings youself for full control of the final result?

See my signature for links to some of my work.
Good Luck!

I'm not clear what you mean "convert using software like Microsoft Word". Convert to what?

If you mean use Word to draw the diagrams, why not use Inkscape? It's a much better tool for diagrams than Word, which is an advanced text editor. It has some drawing capability, but Inkscape would be far superior.

I probably don't have the talent you need, but I still would be curious to know what kind of diagrams you need. I might be able to do it. And if so, I might not even want to be paid.

Also, since I understand that teachers' salaries are not large, and any extra money you might have for extra classroom expenses is probably even smaller (and if you're in the US, this might even be coming out of your own pocket); and since you're asking the artist how much they want to be paid; I wanted to urge you to be very cautious with internet postings like this. Maybe none of my business, and this will be the last word I say about it. But I wanted to suggest that you do a little research ahead of time, and try to have some kind of idea what something like this should cost, rather than ask the artist to "name their price" so to speak.

However, having said that. I can tell you that both Ragnar and hulf are good guys and good artists. They both know Inkscape quite well (and probably some other programs too) and I don't think they would take advantage of you.

Good luck :D

"I'm not clear what you mean "convert using software like Microsoft Word". Convert to what?"

The meaning of converting is that I want to draw similar diagrams like what appears in the textbook and meanwhile I do not violate the copyright law.
