Hi all
I'm new to Inkscape and have been looking at the tutorials on Youtube. I have a question regarding colouring a shape.
I've learned how to draw and colour a shape on Inkscape, but can I upload a scanned shape into the software and colour that or does it have to be a shape drawn on Inkscape itself? It's nothing complicated, it's really just an outline and I want to fill it with colour.
Also, regarding the gradient function. Is there any way to make a colour get lighter from the centre outwards, instead of all over to the one side.
Hope I've explained that well. Thanks for any info and I'm enjoying using Inkscape.

Depends on the complexity of the original image. Take a look at Tracing

Here you may found more about the gradients and colours. Perhaps some other pages of the Manual would improve your experience with Inkscape.
Full sails!
Re: Colouring/adjusting a scanned image
About the gradient editing you're asking for I'll say that is a task in which Gimp would be the preferable tool.
In Gimp - the task would be performed in this steps:
I assume similat can be performed using Inkscape, but I haven't tried myself.
In Gimp - the task would be performed in this steps:
- Duplicate layer
- For the new duplicate layer, adjust the colors to the most brightest at end of gradient.
- Add a new mask to duplicated layer, select Opaqua (will not change appearance on screen yet).
- Use gradient tool, directly at mask. This can be performed unlimited number of times without damage the underlaying image (within same layer).
I assume similat can be performed using Inkscape, but I haven't tried myself.

Hi. I assume this comment is due to the profile signature. The only reason for having this "rude signature" is to notify new users - not for being rude.
If it turns out being wrong, please let me know and I will remove this signature.
There is a significant difference between the notification and, as described, rumors.
There`s even less reasons to elaborate this obvious matter trough the PM`s.
Re: Colouring/adjusting a scanned image
With the admittedly delicate and unstable gradient mesh tool Inkscape's gradient powers are now well beyond GIMP's because - editable colors long after creation.
A little searching and reading on this very RICH AND THRIVINGforum together with some experimentation will go a long way to getting the results you want.

There is no 'automatic' handling of spam, it's all done by a hardworking human (only Lazur, until recently) and updates, if they refer to Inkscape, the program, have nothing to do with the forum and in fact are better than ever with development versions of Inkscape availablefor all platforms. So be of good cheer and rejoice. Unless that's not your personal style...Your mind is what you think it is.
