Hi,
I am having trouble installing the Inkscape2Tikz extension. I downloaded all three files (tikz_export.py, tikz_export_effect.inx and tikz_export_output.inx) and saved them into the Program Files (x86)\inkscape\shared\extensions folder. The extension didn't appear in the Extensions menu. I also attempted downloading the dependencies (inkex.py, simplepath.py and simplestyle.py) into the same folder (although they were already present), but that didn't help. I am using Inkscape version 0.48.5.
Any help is appreciated

You've tried restarting Inkscape?

Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
Hi Brynn,
Yes. I copied the extensions without Inkscape running, then launched it. Closed it and ran it again. The extension was still not there. Any ideas?
Thanks
EDIT: I also tried doing this over a clean install of Inkscape to no avail.

Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
Well, I'm certainly no expert on installing extensions. But it sounds like you did everything right.
On the Extensions Repository page (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... Z_exporter) it says "Export SVG paths as TikZ/PGF code for use with LaTeX." I wonder if it needs LaTex to make it work? Although, to be honest, that's a pretty wild guess....and probably wrong.
Besides double-checking that the files are where they are supposed to be, all I could suggest is -- maybe you could contact someone from the project via https://github.com/kjellmf/svg2tikz ?
Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
Hi Brynn,
Thank you for trying to help me. I have LaTeX installed and it runs correctly, I doubt this is an issue as inkscape itself wouldn't compile the output latex file. I will try contacting the github project developer.
Cheers,
Oskar

Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
Hi All,
I seem to have the same problem as Oskar - I have installed 0.91 on Win7 64bit and no combination of the extension files, locations etc makes any difference. Nothing in the save as or in the extensions menu.
Could it be the 64bit installation? Anyone else made this work? Many thanks, Paul

Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
If you suspect the problem might be the 64-bit version, you could always try the 32-bit version. [Edit - You wouldn't have to uninstall the 64 bit to install the 32-bit. But you'll have to install the extensions into the 32-bit Inkscape directory.
Or you could try the User directory (which is User > AppData > Roaming > Inkscape > extensions). If there isn't an extensions folder, you can add it. Note that AppData may be hidden. Let me know if you can't find it.]
But like I suggested for Oskar, I would suggest trying to contact the author. If you solve the problem, please let us know.

... but the OP already saved the extensions in the 32-bit Windows directory even though the default installation for 0.91 on Windows is 64-bit.
Re: Installing Inkscape2Tikz extension
Hello,
In Linux, there is an "extension-errors.log" file. In my case it is in:
/home/user/.config/inkscape/extension-errors.log
near the place where I put other new extensions not bundled with Inkscape.
Anyway, open it with notepad or wordpad, and find the "Tikz" chain. Hopefully It will inform something...
