Hi Everyone,
I did something pretty cool with inkscape and this seemed like the right place to share it with the community. I manage a cloud based data historian project called Nimbits - it's an open source project that lets users feed sensor data into online data points. For example, some users have Arduino temperature probes that relay data to a data channel on Nimbits. I just released a new version that allows users to create diagrams representing their systems using inkscape and embed data from nimbits in them. So, they see live data changes, alerts and so on.
Here are some links with more info, also i'll keep an eye on this thread and I'm happy to answer any questions.

You can see a sample SVG i made that shows live readings from my aquarium online right here : http://app.nimbits.com/?diagram=586d60c ... 512ed67973

Using inkscape to make live process control diagrams
Re: Using inkscape to make live process control diagrams
Welcome to InkscaepForum, Ben!
I can't quite understand what you've done here, but it sounds pretty cool!
I have a question -- when you say "live...diagrams" is it like animation? Because animation is one of Inkscape's biggest dreams! I tried looking at your example, but it's mostly a blank page. Here's part of a screenshot. I didn't copy the whole blank white part:
Is it "live" like in Inkscape's Live Path Effects, in the sense that you can see your work on the screen/canvas, as you make it?
I do understand your general process with sensor probes, and measuring the aquarium temperature, but I don't see anything on the page. Is it just going to flash the temperature up there whenever it changes? Or is it going to plot a graph, or something like that?

Thank Brynn,
Did you get prompted to install Google's Chrome Frame? You need a browser that supports SVG for it to show up and IE does not. The work around for IE users is to install chrome frame, and it should have prompted you. What version if IE are you using?
What i'm doing here is directly manipulating an SVG with data feeds from Nimbits based on properties in the node. So a hosted SVG diagram on nimbits.com changes based on data points. Shapes change color, text boxes get current number values and so on. You also can click on values for charts and trends. Check out the blog and video I posted too. The possibilities are endless. I'm working on a way to share these "live" svgs on google+ and so on.

Hhhm, no, I didn't get prompted, but I probably would not have installed it anyway. I have some pretty unusual security configs for my IE, so that's probably the source of the problem, rather than your site. Actually I'm not much longer for using IE. The last upgrade (IE9) made it basically worthless for me, so I'm on the search for a new browser anyway. I'll give it a try again, after I've installed whatever new one I decide on.
Yeah, I'm sorry, I can only understand that in the most general way. I barely can comprehend "cloud computing".
Well, lmk if you want me to try your site again, to look for the chrome frame prompt. I'm always glad to help when I can, even if I don't understand it, lol!
