Help importing PDF's

Postby mowers » Fri Mar 04, 2016 9:19 pm

Good morning all,
I was wondering if anyone could assist me.
I am trying to import the attached pdf document into inkscape and then fill out the circles and then print it out on the A4 sticker sheet that comes with the template.
Currently I am having some issues as the template is out by about 0.4mm going down and across and not only that but it changes as the sheet goes down the page so I am thinking it must be something to do with the way that I am importing the file.
I called the company who provided the template and sold me the sticker sheets this morning who were very helpful and suggested that the problem was the way that I was importing the document into inkscape. They were not inkscape experts and suggested that I come here. What they said was that 95% of problems were related to the print driver not being set up to A4 and that people were using scaling or magnification which misaligned the template.

So when I import the file I get the following text box pop up. I am thinking that I am probably importing the file wrong because i have no idea what I ought to be selecting. There are alot of options.

I did find this resource but I didn't really understand at all what they were saying.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I haven't been using inkscape for more than about 8 weeks so any help would be great and it would save me alot of money in printing errors!

Many thanks in advance

Mmh. I'm not an expert in this, either.

The only thing I can suggest is you take a few normal sheets of blank paper, cut them to the size of the label sheet, and try out the different options (cheaper than wasting the label sheets).

You can also resize the document in the document settings (File -> Document properties), and resize the objects in the file by selecting them all (Ctrl+A), then holding Ctrl down to keep the ratio and dragging on the handles.

I know Inkscape often has problems printing things,
- without adding some offset
- on multiple pages

So usually, when someone has one of those problems, I suggest they export to png in a high enough resolution (at least 600dpi), and then print from some other program (for me, the Gimp has an excellent print dialog).
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

Template it self has a gap from the page borders (0.157mm from top and bottom) but it`s not a crucial reason.

You should consider filling the circles a little bit over the given edge for the each sticker, in order to prevent the mismatching during the printing. Bare in mind that personal printers are not maintained as professional machines while still having so many tiny parts which are getting worn out or simply are not at the desired position (due to the usage). For home printers, 0.4mm is considered tolerable.

Regarding the settings...
In this case, leave it unchecked and it would work fine. Further elaboration would be similar to the page you have already found.
