The development version of Inkscape now has Spiro Splines which offers a smiliar method of drawing paths - http://www.nabble.com/NEW%3A-Spiro-spli ... 48124.html

I'm not sure how the benefits of Spiro Splines compares with benefits of spline interpolation but it seems to me that Inkscape probably doesn't need both.

That effect speeds up path manipulation significantly my curves always took more time to form correctly than I wanted them to.
As Bulia stated
Beziers are really clumsy and inconvenient once you get used to Spiros

What's your question?

This is a place to discuss ideas for new features, not request them. If you want to formally request a feature, log your request on Launchpad. But as I said, 0.47dev already has Spiro Splines, which is different to Spline interpolation, but the developers may feel having too many different ways to manipulate beziers is going to create confusion. Request it anyway, if you like--they might love the idea.
