Noobish Question (I think)

Postby paladinj » Sat May 09, 2009 3:37 pm

Hi everyone,

I started using Inkscape for linux, it looks AMAZING!!!
However, I started with the stamp making tutorial, the problem is,
whenever I press 'Difference' to subtract the circles around my rectangle nothing happens, I am pretty confused.
Thanks for all of the help!

If you want to make Difference, you have to select two paths (shapes). For selecting both, select first one and holding down the Shift key, select the other one. Then Path-->Difference. Also the positioning order of the shapes are important. If your circle are above rectangle, it will create a difference on the rectangle. If your circle is under the rectangle, the rectangle will create a difference shape on the circle. I hope this helps.

You might also have to convert your circles (or rectangles) to paths first:

Select Object; Path->Object to Path

This quirk/bug/limitation has been removed in the development version.
