Inkscape Tutorial by heathenx: Webbing

Postby Starchy » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:31 am

In the tutorial...Inkscape Tutorial by heathenx: Webbing...I'm having a problem getting the
Interpolate to work. I've tried some 10 times, following the tutorial every second. First, I have to group
before duplicating, then I try selecting all in order to get the small webb selected, but the interpolate doesn't
work. After many, many tries it worked once but I couldn't figure how I did it. I've looked at the manual and
was able to work some of these. I have version 0.46. Thanks for any help. Starchy

I didn't instruct you to group anything. That could be where the problem lies. Try watching the video again, pausing as you draw so that you can keep up with the video. The path that I intend for you to interpolate should be one complete path.

Duplicate post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=68&start=50#p13176. Perhaps microUgly can correct this situation.

Thanks heathenx, I walked through (without grouping) and made it perfect. I deleted everything and
tried to do the webb without following your tutorial and when I get to the point of selecting the whole image
to duplicate it I get the following image with all the dotted lines in it...course this doesn't work......
Image

I did an exit without saving anything and tried to go throught it again, but lost my rabbits foot somewhere
because I still get the dotted lines.
By the way, the first time when I made it, after selecting the smaller webb
I had to hold shift and select all in order to get interpolate to work. In your tutuorial, you select the smaller webb
and move pointer to previous path and select...here I lose the selection around the smaller webb.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong to get all the dotted lines. Thanks, Starchy

Interpolate only works between 2 paths, it won't work if you select all. Select the big curve, duplicate it and make it smaller to get the small curve, did you get to that step?

Now you need to select only the small and the big curve, select one of them, press and hold Shift and click on the other (holding Shift adds to selection). Look into statusbar, it will tell you how many objects you have selected.

Thanks prkos for helping me. This time I did File>Default resetting Inkscape back to
default, then worked through it, and made it complete !!! I'm new to Inkscape and see many settings
left over from the previous tutorials...even after closing down and re-opening...many settings are
remembered. I think this was my problem because I made some mistakes and selected "undo" but
don't think it worked right. Anyway, I've learned a lot from heathenx tutorials and think they are great.
Thanks again and hope that I haven't caused any problems. Starchy

Edit: My problem was that I was "selecting all" causing all the dotted lines and learned by your instructions
how to select only the webbs.
